Modern xylophones can sound hard and unpleasant; many use synthetic tone bars. But recently we stumbled across an instrument that's almost 100 years old. This xylophone had a warmth and personality to it that seemed almost cosy, friendlier than those we'd played before. Made by the Leedy Company, it is made of Honduran Rosewood and is beautifully worn and burnished and has plenty of character.
Furthermore, it turns out this instrument was owned (+ signed) by the celebrated British-Canadian jazz percussionist Peter Appleyard (1928-2013) - a true piece of musical history.

Xylophone features close + wide mic channels, each can be panned and routed to external DAW channels.
From here you can access the Mallet type, the ADSR + Filter controls, the Tremolo, Tuning + Mechanics page.

SC Xylophone features a custom tremolo module that allows you to design your own tremolo rolls and accents, with speed and velocity tailored perfectly to your music.

Xylophone is equipped with a full micro-tuning system, if desired. You can try new tunings from a large selection of presets, or create your own, which will repeat across all octaves. You can save or load tuning files as well.

Weaver: Create unique rhythmic patterns for each note you play. A bit like a delay effect but evolves differently according to what you play - strands of sound weave in and out of each other.
Jammer: The latest evolution of our generative arpeggiator - Hold a chord, and let it evolve - or loop a section and jam between 12 sequences using the Jam wheel.

Xylophone features a comprehensive effects page, with a configurable insert chain featuring Replika, Phasis and other cutting-edge NI effects. The Space Reverb module features Soniccouture's custom impulse library built up over many years and recording sessions.

The model 660 Xylophone we sampled was produced from early in the century through the 1920s and 30s.
The Leedy Manufacturing Company was started by Ulysses Leedy and his roommate Sam Cooley in 1867. Working out of a basement in Indianapolis, Indiana they began building and selling drums and percussion equipment. Herman Winterhoff later became vice president and was to invent the Vibraphone which was marketed by Leedy from 1924.
