HOW TO TAKE PART
1. Click below to hear which note to sing (notes are assigned randomly)
Sing A#2
2. NOW RECORD YOURSELF SINGING THIS NOTE ('AAAH') FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN HOLD IT - IDEALLY FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS.
You can use any mic you like, any software you have - even a built-in laptop mic. However, the better the recording the better the end result, so please use the best you have.
Please feel free to record as many different
notes as you like.
3. UPLOAD YOUR RECORDING
Files must be either WAV, AIFF or MP3 format. Individual Files must be under 10MB.
Recording quality : Ideally Mono 24bit 44.1khz, but anything will be accepted : ( e.g. 16bit 48khz stereo is also fine)
You will be automatically entered into the Array Mbira competition once you submit your recording.
Recording Tips :
Please leave recordings dry and unprocessed - no EQ, compression, reverb etc.
Singing the note : try to sing a straight 'Aaaaah' for as long as you can, at a medium volume level. It's ok if you can't do 10 seconds, but if you can do longer, that's great. Try not to add any extra vibrato, aside from what happens naturally.
Don't get too close to the mic ; a distance of 12-15 inches will be fine.
If you do want to record more than one note, please concentrate on doing as many different notes as you can rather than the same one over and over.
If you have more than one person available, you can all sing your note together, into the same microphone.
Remember to keep the file size of each note below 10MB - if for some reason it is larger, then there are things you can do to make it the right size : convert it from stereo to mono ( mono is preferred), edit silence from the end of the file, reduce the sampling rate to 44.1khz
